Join us in meeting the new SIPex
Dear SIP Supporter,
Fresh, faster, and easier than ever to use. The SIPex has undergone a major upgrade! We invite you to join us for the grand unveiling of the brand new SIPex on Friday, October 10, from 10:00-11:30AM (PST). This event will mark the official launch of the latest version of the SIPex, which includes upgraded features, an enhanced searchable database and improved user experience. |

|
The SIPex is an online knowledge exchange tool to support innovative silviculture. The goal of the SIPex is to inform forest management decisions by providing access to knowledge and knowledge holders to innovate the ways in which values are managed, practices are implemented, and approaches are created.
You may remember, we tested a beta version of the SIPex earlier this year (thank you if you participated!). Since then, we've been busy upgrading the website and are ready to showcase all of its new capabilities.
Our launch webinar will highlight:
🌱 New SIPex features to access even more knowledge
🌿 How to optimize your use of the SIPex to solve problems
🌳 What kinds of practitioner challenges are specifically tailored to the SIPex experience
Registration for the launch webinar is required. |

Finding Fishers: Out On A Limb with West Fraser
|
|
|
Are you interested in fisher-friendly forestry? Join us as we spotlight the work of West Fraser in managing for fisher habitat in the Cariboo and learn more about the needs of these formidable critters. |
|
|
In our latest Out On A Limb episode, we catch up with Janelle Hale and Laurel La Riviere, foresters with West Fraser, as they re-visit a site where recommendations from the BC Fisher Tool were integrated into the prescription, a tool developed by the BC Fisher Habitat Working Group and the Government of BC to help practitioners identify habitat retention targets and rare stand types within cutblocks. They are also joined by Sandra Frey, biologist with the Government of BC, who unpacks the ins and outs of fisher ecology and the Fisher Tool.
This video features: Janelle Hale and Laurel La Riviere with West Fraser; Sandra Frey with the Government of BC; and Esk'etemc Guardians, Eric Dick, Tracer Weingart, and Dale Johnson. We thank all of the speakers for sharing their knowledge and experiences with us.
Fishers are medium-sized weasels that rely on old-forest features, making them a key indicator of ecosystem health. Retaining and creating fisher habitat is one way foresters can help support this rare and declining species. |
