Spring into action with a SIP update

Spring has arrived and with it comes a new season of renewal and opportunity in the forest. As the days grow longer, activity is ramping up across the province—from cultural burning to preparing for a busy field season. The Silviculture Innovation Program is excited to embrace the energy of spring and share updates on our blooming projects. Whether you're dusting off your boots or diving into prep, we’re glad you're with us for another season of innovation.

Best wishes,

Congratulations to Our Grant Recipients

We are thrilled to support over thirty innovative projects across BC through our granting program. This year, our Innovation in Action grants are supporting a variety of projects, from restoration thinning treatments in the Interior Douglas-fir (IDF) by the Williams Lake First Nation to cultural burns by Ntityix Resources in the Thompson-Okanagan. While our Capacity Building grants are supporting skill development and extension activities from workshops on alternate harvesting systems by Woodlots BC to silviculture surveyor training for Alkali Resource Management Ltd.

All successful projects can be explored on our website (link below), pending signed agreements with project leads. We look forward to extending learnings from our grantees as they tackle critical on-the-ground challenges of innovative silviculture.

Did you hear? The SIPex is loading...

We are excited to release a testable beta version of the SIP exchange (SIPex), a user-friendly informational portal to enable better access for practitioners to knowledge and knowledge holders on innovative silviculture in BC.

Now is your chance to help us improve this product! We are asking forest practitioners to test the beta version of the SIPex and provide feedback. Feedback will help us enhance the SIPex user experience, functionality and usability. Use the survey link below with tailored questions so we can better understand your experience of the SIPex.

Community is a core value of the SIPex, meaning the SIPex is designed for practitioners and continually informed by practitioners. We can’t wait to continue improving resources and tools to serve this community of innovators. A full launch of the SIPex is anticipated in the Fall of 2025.

We are accepting survey feedback on the beta version of SIPex until May 9, 2025.
